The first handmade decals! / Pierwsze zrobione własnoręcznie kalkomanie!

 How it started?

Initially, seeing the difficulties resulting from finding appropriate decals for my planes, I thought about starting to design them myself.

However, the very fruitful cooperation with Bernhard caused me to temporarily abandon this idea. By the time...

Once, my friend Marcin asked me if I was still thinking about creating decals, to which I replied "yes".

Marcin's question was caused by the fact that he would like to paint the model of his Avro Lancaster in the colors of a specific example from the RAF No. 300 Bomber Squadron, specifically "Lady in a glass".

Without thinking too long, I started working. The first step is, of course, searching the literature and the Internet for appropriate numbers and paintings.

 The next step was to scale all numbers and identity markings appropriately.

 

 After several days of struggle, mistakes and learning, the first set of decals was created.

Jak to się zaczęło?

Początkowo, widząc trudności wynikające ze znalezienia odpowiednich kalkomanii dla moich samolotów, myślałem o rozpoczęciu własnoręcznego ich projektowania.

Jednak bardzo owocna współpraca z Bernhardem spowodowała, że chwilowo zaniechałem tego pomysłu. Do czasu...

Pewnego razu kolega Marcin zapytał mnie czy nadal myślę o tworzeniu kalkomanii, na co odpowiedziałem, że "tak".

Pytanie Marcina spowodowane było faktem, że chciałby pomalować model swojego Avro Lancastera w barwy konkretnego egzemplarza z 300 dywizjonu bombowego RAF, a dokładnie "Kieliszkową Damę".

Nie zastanawiając się zbyt długo przystąpiłem do pracy. Pierwsze czynność to oczywiście przeszukanie literatury i internetu w poszukiwaniu odpowiednich numerów i malowań. 

Następnym krokiem było odpowiednie przeskalowanie wszelkich numerów i znaków identyfikacji.

Po kilkudniowych bojach, błędach i naukach powstał pierwszy zestaw kalkomanii.

Hurricane Mk II, a bit about the design and my models! / Hurricane Mk II, co nieco o konstrukcji i moich modelach!

First, something about the plane!

 

The Hurricane II aircraft was first flown on June 11, 1940, and in August it entered service under the designation Hurricane Mk II. It differed from the Mk I version with a new Merlin XX engine, equipped with a two-speed compressor, enabling the pilot to change the rotational speed (gear) depending on from the flight ceiling 

Hurricane Mk II was later designated Mk IIA Series 1. The next version of the machine was designated Hurricane Mark IIA Series 2 and was additionally armed with eight Browning machine guns. In addition, a new propeller with slightly better parameters was used.

And now about the models!

I decided to prepare my planes in the standard RAF livery of that period. 302 Squadron had a squadron code consisting of the letters WX.

As a distinguishing feature of the Polish squadron, a Polish "chessboard" was painted under the pilot's cabin, and the planes of this version did not have any additional, individual paintings.

Individual planes received the numbers, along with serial numbers:

A - Z2806

B - Z3675

C - Z2386

U - Z2485

V - Z2423

W - Z2350

Na początek coś o samolocie!

Samolot Hurricane II został oblatany 11 czerwca 1940 roku, i już w sierpniu wszedł do uzbrojenia pod oznaczeniem Hurricane Mk II, od  wersji Mk I różnił się nowym silnikiem Merlin XX, wyposażonym w dwubiegową sprężarkę, umożliwiającą zmianę prędkości obrotowej (biegu) przez pilota w zależności od pułapu lotu.  

Hurricane Mk II został później oznaczony jako Mk IIA Seria 1. Kolejna wersja maszyny oznaczona została jako Hurricane Mark IIA Seria 2 i została dodatkowo uzbrojona w osiem karabinów maszynowych Browning. Ponadto zastosowano nowe śmigło o nieco lepszych parametrach. 

A teraz o modelach!

Swoje samoloty postanowiłem przygotować w standardowym malowaniu RAF w tym okresie. 302 dywizjon posiadał kod dywizjonowy składający się z liter WX.

Jako wyróżnik polskiego dywizjony pod kabiną pilota malowano polską "szachownicę", po za tym samoloty tej wersji nie posiadały żadnych dodatkowych, indywidualnych malowań.

Poszczególne samoloty otrzymały natomiast numery, wraz z numerami seryjnymi:

V - Z2423
W - Z2350

 302 Dywizjon Myśliwski "Poznański"

The first unit I wanted to have in my collection was the Hawker Hurricane. After purchasing the set and seeing that on the card it was Hurricane version II, I decided to prepare it in the RAF 302 Squadron painting from April/May 1941, i.e. the standard British Dark Earth and Dark Green camouflage with a Sky colored bottom and the same fuselage stripe.

 

 

After painting the planes, it was time to find the decals, which wasn't very easy. Fortunately, it turned out that one of the members of the Facebook group, Bernhard Kleber, creates decals and agreed to prepare decals for my planes.

302 Squadron was formed on July 10, 1940. He had Hurricane II planes on the ship from March to August 1941, when he replaced them with Spitfire Vb planes.

In total, 302 Squadron was credited with 45.5 enemy aircraft shot down, 25 enemy aircraft probably destroyed and 17 damaged.

No. 302 Polish Squadron lost 20 pilots killed, 12 missing and 9 taken prisoners.

Pierwszym oddziałem, który chciałem mieć w swojej kolekcji był Hawker Hurricane. Po zakupie zestawu i zobaczeniu, iż na karcie jest to Hurricane w wersji II, postanowiłem przygotować go w malowaniu 302 dywizjonu RAF z kwietnia/maja 1941 roku, czyli standardowy brytyjski  kamuflaż Dark Earth i Dark Green ze spodem w kolorze Sky i takim samym pasem kadłubowym.

Po pomalowaniu samolotów przyszedł czas na znalezienie kalkomanii, co nie było zbyt łatwe. Na szczęście okazało się, że jeden z członków grupy na faceebooku, Bernhard Kleber, tworzy kalkomanie i zgodził się przygotować kalkomanie dla moich samolotów.

302 Dywizjon powstał w dniu 10 lipca 1940 roku. Samoloty Hurricane II posiadał natomiast  okresie od marca do sierpnia 1941 r, kiedy wymienił je na samoloty Spitfire Vb.

Ogółem 302 dywizjonowi zaliczono 45,5 zestrzeleń wrogich samolotów, 25 prawdopodobnie zniszczonych samolotów wroga i 17 uszkodzonych.

302 dywizjon stracił 20 pilotów zabitych, 12 zaginionych i 9 wziętych do niewoli.
